Olympic Closing Ceremony

I was excited because today there’s the Olympic closing ceremony. But there would be no more Olympic games to watch for four years. I was unhappy they do it every 4 years. The next time Olympic comes would be in London.
I still had to wait until 8:00 in the evening for the closing ceremony. I waited and waited. I didn’t wait long but it felt like a long time. Finally it came. I ran to the couch and sat. I saw that people were wearing red cloths lined in acircles one inside another. There were 5 circles. When I looked closer I saw they were hitting drums. Outside of their circle were more people wearing yellow dresses. They had bells lined around their hips. They were outside. They were dancing. Together they looked like flower. The inside looked like nectar and the outside made a shape of petals around the nectar. When the light reflected onto then, it looked like the petals were golden. It looked pretty. I was glad I didn’t miss this.
Then people riding things like bicycles but it was like a glowing wheel with pedals that the people could ride on. The wheel was bigger than a person and there were a lot of wheels on the field.. They pedaled out. Then there were people jumped around the flowers. I didn’t know how they jumped so high but then I saw antennas on their feet. It looked like they were bouncing on a trampoline. It looked fun.
Next there was stairs. There was atheletes walking up the stairs. I couldn’t figure out why there were stairs. Mom told me that they pretended to leave on a air plane, except there was no air plane. They did that because they were pretending to leave. They looked back at the torch. The fire slowly shimmered away.
Then I saw a big tower with people hanging onto it. They bended down row by row like a wave but since they wore orange cloths it looked more like a flame in the fire. There were pieces of silk cloth laying on the ground. They were long and wide. The string pulled the silk cloth up around the tower until it looked like a flower. Some people climbed down and some climbed up. I was surprised they climbed so quickly so I called them ants.
After that a bus came. There was a lady that had a sign that said bus stop. When the bus drove there, I saw people dancing. The bus stopped. The top of the bus opened. I never knew it was a double deck bus. When the door opened I saw girl holding a soccer ball. The girl gave the ball to a famous soccer player named Beckham. He kicked it out and an athlete caught it. The bus was from London because the next Olympic game will be held there.
I liked the closing ceremony, but I liked the opening ceremony better because it was more exciting.

Rhythmic Gymnastic

One day I looked on TV to see what was on Olympics. There was some kind of gymnastics. I asked grandma what it was. She said it was rhythmic gymnastics. I wanted to see gymnastics so I kept watching.
I saw a few girls wearing very pretty costumes. Their costumes were sparkly, shiny and it had flowery designs on the costumes. I wished I had it.
They were holding hoops; I heard the man say that the dancers were from America. They stepped onto a mat. When the music turned on, they started dancing. The music sounded very nice. They danced to the music with rhythm. They threw their hoops in the air and the person across from them caught it. Then one of them held the hoop while the other one jumped through. They looked very flexible. They threw the hoops up into the air and did a summer Sault and caught it.
At the very end, they did a pose. Everybody clapped. It was fun watching. They were very good at it.

Tennis - Nadal

I liked to watch tennis and I liked to watch Nadal playing. Right now he was on TV. Grandma told me Nadal’s playing and ran over to the TV room and started watching. It was Nadal’s turn to serve the ball. Grandma said every time before Nadal serves, he pulls his pants. I thought he pulled his pants up, but when I watched he pulled his pants down. When I looked at his face, I saw that his mouth was tilted sideways.

He served the ball and the other side it back. The ball went to the opposite side of Nadal but Nadal still hit it back. The other player couldn’t catch the ball. Nadal served an ace and the other side couldn’t hit it back. They then played and a few more times, the other player hit the ball out of the line, he also hit the ball to the net a few times.

At the end Nadal won. He lied down on the ground because he was so happy.

Weight lifting

I wanted to see what was on Olympics. There is only lifting weights. It was kind of fun to watch. The first athlete was German. He was going to lift a very heavy weight. He looked like he had big muscles. Grandma was watching too and she said it’s as heavy as four of my dad. Mom said when she lifted a 15 lb dumbbell, it was heavy for her. The German man was going to lift 247 Kg. We didn’t know how he could lift it.

He first tried to lift barbell up. When he got it off the ground, he held it for a while. He bended his legs and pulled it up. Then he stood up, straight and he pushed his arms above his head. He did it. It looked like it was easy for him. He wasn’t breathing very hard.

Next athlete was lifting the same weight. He lifted the barbell to his chest, but dropped it. Some more athletes took turn to lift. Then the German guy was going to lifted a weight heavier than anybody else. If he lifted this weight, he would beat everybody and get a gold medal. He lifted it all the way up until his arms were straight above his head. He got a gold medal.

10 meter diving

Today I wanted to watch Olympics. I turned to the TV, there was only 10 meter diving. Grandma said it is like jumping from our 3rd floor to the ground. I thought that was high. I asked grandma why there were two divers. She said not only the movement should be good, they should be identical. That was very hard to do. Chinese team was up to jump. The difficulty was 3.4. I didn’t know if it was hard or not. They jumped, flipped forward in the air and stretched out straight. They landed in the water with a splash. It was a small splash. They looked like a needle going into the water. I thought the Chinese team was good because they were identical and splash wasn’t big.

Next was an England little boy with an adult. They jumped off the board, twisted, flipped and straightened. But they were not very straight and landed in the water. The water had a big splash and one was faster than the other. Their score wasn’t as high as Chinese’s. but they were still pretty good.

Chinese won so China earned a gold Medal.

Beach Volleyball -- May & Walsh

In the morning I wanted to watch Olympic Games. I turned the TV on and I saw fencing. I didn’t like fencing so I turned to beach Volleyball. Misty May and Kerrie Welsh were playing. I like to watch them play because they play very well. Welsh is good at hitting the ball so the other team wouldn’t catch the ball.

I saw that they had already started playing. May and Welsh were winning. It was 16 to 11. It was May’s turn to serve. She didn’t do it good thought, the ball hit the net. Now the other team served the ball too hard, the ball went over the back line. I thought it was funny because each team gave each other a point.

It happened a few times, then May and Welsh was close to winning, because they had 20 points and one more point until they would win. The other team served the bal far, but Welsh dived and saved the ball. May slipped and pushed it up, and then Welsh smashed it over the net. The other team saved it and just when it was crossing the net, Welsh pushed it over. The ball landed where there were no players.

May and Welsh won, they won by 9 points.

Gymnastics

Today I watched gymnastics. It was China verses. U.S.A. I didn’t know who I should cheer for, because I am Chinese and American, so I just watched. First it was uneven bars. China was first. It was a sixteen year old girl, but she looked smaller than sixteen year old girl. She jumped on the bar, and then she did handstands and swung like a monkey. She released and jumped on to the high bar. I thought it was very hard to do that. She did a few splits on the bar. Then she grabbed on to the low bar. After she grabbed on, her hands slipped and she fell off. Now she was a little nervous since she fell down. She got up and got on the bar. She started from her mistake. After she was done, her score wasn’t very low. The girl from team U.S.A. went on the bars too. She was pretty good and didn’t fall. Her landing wasn’t so good though. Her score was lower than Chinese girl’s.

The next competition was the vault. A little girl from China started. She ran to a spring board, did a cartwheel and landed on the vault on her hands instead of her feet. She then jumped off and span in the air, twist and turning. Then she made a perfect landing. I couldn’t believe how well her landing was. I think China’s very good at gymnastics. I wonder how they’re so flexible. It was a wonderful competition.

Michael Phelps 200m free style

Today I wanted to watch Olympics swim competition. Michael Phelps is a swimmer for team U.S.A. He was going to get 8 gold medals. This 200m freestyle is going to be his third gold medal. I was going to cheer for him because he is the fastest swimmer.

The game was going to be held in the water cube. The water cube looked like a cube with bubbles. The bubbles were usually blue, but sometimes they were rainbow.

When Michael was getting ready, the man that was talking about Olympics was introducing all of the swimmers to us. When he introduced Michael he said all he did was eat, swim, and sleep. And he snored very loudly and it was funny to me.

Now everybody was ready. I was eager to see Michael swim. I had no doubt Michael was going to get to be first place. I really wanted to watch. Everybody was getting ready to jump. Finally they jumped. Michael jumped the farthest. There was something weird about his rhythm. His arm were 1-2-rest, 1-2-rest and I thought it made him faster. His feet were where the other swimmers head were, but they couldn’t catch up with Michael. It was the last round and he kicked the wall very hard when he turned. When he was almost there, he kept his head down until he reached the wall. He won!

Michael got out of the water and searched for his mom in the crowd. When he saw her, he smiled and his teeth were shining white. They put the gold medals on Michael. They were singing star spangled banners. The competition was fantastic.

Olympic Opening Ceremony

Today I was going to watch Olympic opening Ceremony on TV at night. I was so excited. I always wanted to stay up late. I ate my dinner as fast as I could. However, there was still time. It was going to be at 8:00. So I just went to sit with my dad watching TV. Then my sister came. It was boring to watch TV. After a while I looked at the clock again, it was almost time. So I went back to sit down. Then after a few minutes, it started. I was happy and excited.

First there were people with drums. But I thought this wasn’t as exciting as I thought it was. But just then I saw them take sticks out. I thought they would used that to hit the drums. They did. Then they turned off the lights. The sticks glowed in the dark. It was so cool. It wasn’t boring to me anymore. The sticks were red and bright, it was fun watching.

Now it was people selling things on TV like commercial. But then it went back to Olympics Opening Ceremony. They had a paper lying on the ground, at first I didn’t know what it was for. Then people came and started dancing. Their hands had mittens on it. They could draw. They danced while they drew it. It was amazing how they did it. They were drawing lines and I was excited to see what they would draw. So I waited. But wait long until they were done. Then I saw they drew mountains with a sun. It looked like one of the paintings of nature. It was wonderful.

Then my mom said they would light the torch. I didn’t know what she meant but I wanted to wait and see. Then there was somebody holding a torch with fire on it. Then he started running. I didn’t get it. Then I saw another person with a torch, but it didn’t have fire on it. Then the first person put the torch together. They both had fire now. Now they kept doing it. Then after the last person stopped, I looked around for the torch but I didn’t see it. Then I saw him get lifted up in the air by a string. And then he started running in the air. He looked like he was running on the ground. I wondered when he was going to stop. He walked around the stadium called bird’s nest and he got to a torch. The torch was higher than him and I didn’t know how he could get up. So I watched closely. He put the fire on the side of the torch and the fire went up. It looked stunning. I was amazed the fire wouldn’t die.

After the torch was lit, the opening ceremony ended. I think it was gorgeous how they did all these things. I was very happy but also very tired. Mom and I helped each other upstairs to settle in our nice comfy bed for a good night of sleep.

Canoeing on Concord River

Saturday morning, I went canoeing. I was so excited. When we got there, my mom picked a big silver boat, life jackets and paddles. We got in the boat and the man pushed us and we all rowed.
At first I didn’t really know how to paddle the right way so I just paddled. Then my dad saw that I paddled wrong, he told me the right way. It felt easer but it was tiring, sometimes I had to rest. Now I was good at it but my mom and I couldn’t paddle at the same time, so we were fighting. My mom counted 1-2, 1-2 and that worked. When we got used to it, we didn’t have to count any more.
After we paddled a while, I heard a splash. I looked around; my sister was splashing my grandma. The splash was so big I even got wet. My grandma told her to stop. Some times she forgets, some times she remembered.
After some rowing, I felt we were turning to the trees. We had to lift up the branches. It was good my dad was in the back to steer. He got us out of the trees. A little while later I thought of an idea. I told my mom we could live at Venice. So we wouldn’t use gas and rowing a boat was fun. My mom said when Jasmine was older we could go. I said, “Yay! I was happy but I had to wait until Jasmine was older.
Just then I saw a brick built bridge. It had three holes. We went through. There was a second bridge with one hole. It was brick too. We went under. I made wolf noises and it echoed. It sounded like it was real. After we were through, I saw a few ducks. There were a lot of small ones. Then we saw a duck flying, it flew past a turn.
Finally we were at North Bridge. We parked the boat, but it was hard. Then my sister got off first. Then we went on the bridge. It was wooden and it had a lot of holes under. My mom asked me if I knew what the statues on either side of the bridge were for. I said no. She said that the British and the American had a battle on the bridge. Then my mom said the British had made the first shot. But I wasn’t sure what the other stature was for. After we walked across the bridge, I noticed a lot of purple flowers. It looked magnificent. There were so many. I never saw anything so beautiful. I couldn’t believe my eyes. But then my mom was ahead so I had to catch up.
After we walked a while and I was getting board. Just then my mom and I saw a path. We went in. We saw a man and he said there were blackberries ahead. We walked further but I still didn’t see. Then my mom saw a blackberry bush. I was excited to try because I never ate black berries before. My mom picked one for me. I asked my mom if it was dirty. She said you could eat wild blackberries. So I ate it. It was sour. It made me feel like my teeth were going to fall out. So I had to suck it. My mom said blackberries were supposed to be sour. But it was too sour. We picked some more and started walking again. We walked and we were at the visitor place. We saw my sister. My legs were tired so we decided to go back.
